What to Expect on Your Roof Job
From the first call to the final nail sweep across your yard, you always know what we are doing on your roof and the reason for it.
- 1
A free look at the roof
We go over the covering, flashing, vents and gutters, and the attic when we can get into it, looking for stains or light coming through. You receive photos and a plain answer on whether a repair will last or a new roof is the better move.
- 2
Your options and a written estimate
We walk through the coverings that fit your roof's pitch and framing and what each one gives up. Every part of the job appears on the written estimate. If paying monthly suits you better, ask about financing through Service Finance Company, subject to credit approval.
- 3
Permit and scheduling
On a full reroof, we apply to the city for the permit and set up the inspection. After you pick the shingle color or tile profile, we place the order and give you a start date.
- 4
Install day, with your property covered
Before tear-off starts, we tarp the plants and driveway. Bad decking is replaced, underlayment and flashing go down, then the finish roofing, and a magnet sweeps the yard for nails at the end of each day.
- 5
Final walk-through
After the inspector approves the job, we go over the roof with you and show you the flashing, vents and other details you paid for.

A Norwalk Roofer Who Shows You the Parts
Norwalk Roofing Experts works on homes throughout Norwalk and the cities around it. Most roofs we see sit on mid-century houses that have been reroofed once or twice, often with mixed coverings and patched flashing. Reading that history correctly is the first step toward a roof that lasts.
Homeowners make better decisions when they understand the parts. So we name what failed, show you a photo of it and explain what each replacement option will do on your roof. If a repair is enough, we say so. After a storm, we document the damage and work directly with your insurance claim, so you know what the carrier is looking at. The adjuster still makes the coverage call.

How We Work on Your Roof
Many roof failures trace back to a covering that never suited the roof's pitch, its framing or the path water takes off it. Those are the first things we check.
Options compared before you decide
You get a plain side-by-side of what fits your roof. Architectural shingles are light and go on quickly. Concrete tile lasts longer but puts real weight on the rafters. Modified bitumen or a coated membrane belongs on low-slope sections where shingles would leak.
Pitch measured, not guessed
Shingles and tile both need a minimum slope to shed water. We measure each roof plane, so a 2-in-12 patio cover doesn't end up with a product rated for 4-in-12.
Line-item written estimates
Tear-off, decking, underlayment, flashing, vents and the finish material each get their own line. You can see where the money goes and hold our numbers up against any other bid.
Photos of what we find
Cracked tiles, lifted shingle tabs, rusted pipe jacks and soft decking get photographed during the inspection. You see what we see before we suggest repair or replacement.
English or Spanish, your call
Se habla español. The estimate, the roof choices and any claim paperwork can be talked through in Spanish or English, whichever your family prefers.
Questions Homeowners Ask Us Most Often
Is my roof worth repairing, or is it time for a new one?
That comes down to how old the covering is and how solid the deck below it is. A handful of cracked tiles or one bad pipe boot is normally a repair job. Granules gone across the roof, shingles that snap, or soft decking in several places usually mean replacement. We hand you photos and explain our thinking so you can judge for yourself.
My house has shingles now. Can it carry a tile roof?
In some cases. Concrete tile is several times heavier than asphalt shingles, so we inspect the rafters and sheathing before recommending the change. Some framing has to be strengthened, and sometimes a lighter covering makes more sense. We will tell you which is true for your house.
What belongs on a low-slope addition or patio cover?
Shingles and standard tile are not designed for very shallow slopes and often leak on them. These sections hold up better under modified bitumen or a coated membrane made to sit under standing water. We measure the pitch first and then suggest the system that suits it.
Can you help me with an insurance claim?
Yes, we work with your insurance claim directly. We record the damage in photos and measurements, explain what we found and can join the adjuster on the roof. Your insurer decides the coverage, and we help you line up their scope against ours.
Does a new roof come with a warranty?
A roof that qualifies can carry a GAF System Plus manufacturer limited warranty. During the estimate review, we let you know if your job qualifies and what the manufacturer's terms include.
Can I pay for the roof over time?
You can apply for financing through Service Finance Company, and approval depends on your credit. We explain how it works while going over your written estimate, and using it is always your choice.
Does a new roof need a permit?
A full reroof usually calls for a permit and a final inspection by the local building department. We handle the permit filing and schedule the inspector, so the city paperwork is off your plate. Small jobs, such as replacing a few tiles or a pipe boot, are often under the permit threshold, and we will let you know which side your job falls on.
How many days will the crew be at my home?
It varies with the size of the roof, how many layers are coming off, the shape the deck is in and the new covering. Tile is slower to install than shingles, and deck repairs add days once the old roof is removed. Your written estimate shows an expected schedule, and we update you if the deck holds surprises.
What Moves the Price of a Roof
The covering you pick sets part of the price. The rest comes from what sits under it and how easy the roof is to work on. Those hidden parts often swing the total more than the shingle or tile itself.
Your estimate is free and written after we have been on the roof, and in the attic where we can get in. If tear-off uncovers hidden decking damage, you see photos and the added cost before any extra work starts.
- The covering you choose
- Three-tab shingles, architectural shingles, concrete tile, clay tile and low-slope membranes differ in product cost and in labor per square. Tile also takes more careful handling and its own underlayment system.
- Layers to remove
- Older roofs sometimes carry a second layer of shingles laid over the first. Each layer adds tear-off labor and disposal weight, and it can hide damage to the deck.
- Decking condition
- Many older houses still have spaced board sheathing or tired plywood. Rotted or delaminated sections must be replaced before new roofing goes on, and the full extent only shows once the old roof is off.
- Roof shape and access
- Hips, valleys, dormers, skylights and chimneys all need extra cutting and flashing. A steep pitch or a narrow side yard slows the work and adds safety setup.
- Permits and energy code
- A full reroof usually needs a permit and inspection. California's energy code can also require cool-rated roofing on a reroof, which narrows the product list and can shift the cost.
- Ventilation and flashing upgrades
- Adding ridge vent, swapping corroded flashing or fixing undersized attic intake changes the scope. These details often decide how long the new roof actually lasts.
